Your wedding day is celebration, with a lot going on behind the scenes. While documenting the main event on your wedding is my priority, there is ample time built into my Hawaii wedding day photography packages to capture the finer details that help tell the story of your marriage. My photo assistants and I typically start by taking “getting ready” pictures in the bridal suite, then head over to your fiancée’s room.
But since there simply isn’t enough time to photograph every little detail, I like to ask my clients to put some forethought into what they want captured before and after the ceremony takes place, and during the reception. Having a list helps save time and ensures you and your honey get images of the symbolic details that have personal significance for your journey together.
Here are a few examples of the kinds of items/details that can help tell the story of your wedding day:
- Wedding Dress
- Veil
- Bridesmaid dresses
- Bridal Bouquet
- Elaborate up-dos on the girls in the wedding party
- Shoes of the bride, groom, and wedding party
- Wedding Band and engagement Ring (In bridal suite)
- Any heirloom jewelry (I like to photograph jewelry on the body as it tells a better story.)
- The “something old, new, borrowed, and blue”
- Colorful socks on the groom and groomsmen
- Cufflinks, ties, and/or bow-ties for the groom and groomsmen
- Wedding vow sheets
- Special tokens for family members, gifts, and other sentimental items
Some couples choose to have their invitation photographed next is an example of incorporating your veil and shoes together.

I send a questionnaire to all of my couples beforehand to help get the wedding day details list squared away. Having this information ahead of time helps me give some thought to creative combinations that will make the shots extra dynamic — for instance, a shot of the bride’s heels with the wedding dress laid out in the background. Feel free to ask your friends and family members to contribute their ideas for the unique little details that will make your wedding album extra special.
Our bride’s mother had passed away recently and she wanted to honor her at the wedding.
